Yep Casey, the box sounds awesome
I saw this 9090DB show up on CL on weds afternoon and jumped on it, and had the good fortune to be the first caller. I spoke to the seller that evening when he returned my call, he lives practically in my neighborhood but he wanted to wait to meet on Saturday, when he had the time to setup and demo. The seller is ex-military, so he's that all-to-rare breed who honored my place in line and kept his end of the deal. They told me that they had lots of callers (dozens) including bad-karma folks trying to cut in line even when they explained that they had an appointment to meet with me, the first guy in line, on Saturday. We both shook our heads about that - he clearly gets it which was great. I had a great time visiting with hiim, and he let me buy a few excellent LPs too.
The unit has been in storage for the last 11 years. He purchased it in 1979 while stationed in Europe. I went over this afternoon and he had the unit setup on a table with speakers and we powered it up - all lights and meters working, controls and clean and quiet - the balance control ring is on the volume control behind the volume knob - it was stuck and wouldn't move, probably from years of non-use, but I was able to loosen it up after pulling the volume knob off, and good clean sound out of both channels. This unit has been treated with kid gloves and is in perfect condition other than a small nick in an upper back corner of the wood case, it is a time capsule and sounds fantastic.
Here's some pictures:
Out of the box, covered in the elastic plastic cover:
Still had a plastic tag on the front panel, reads quot;Set this switch at OFF when not using Dolby NRquot;Very very nice!
Howdy,
Major Congrats,! So nice that there are those rare, clean beauties out
there, ready for a new home....Sounds like an excellent experience all
around,.....She's a beauty ! Happy listening.......Cheers,T
great score I missed that one !
Thanks guys, yeah I'm pumped. The seller was interested in hearing about . He tried to demo a couple of nice tape decks (Teac A-303 and Toshiba model) and he was surprised to find out they don't spin anymore (since he also had these listed on CL). I told him they probably just need to be re-belted because the lights and meters looked good, and I told him to check out the great resources on the web including AK. I have a Teac A-303 I'm going to re-belt so I'll probably email him and offer to get his unit at the same time.
BTW - the LPs were still in shrink and in pristine condition:
Jimi Hendrix - Woke Up This Morning and Found Myself Dead (1980 release of a live club recording)
Blues Breaker - John Mayall with Eric Clapton
Neil Young and the Bluenotes - This Notes for You
Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills - Super Session
Oh man that's just beautiful. I'm happy for ya bro!
I'd never sell mine. Ever.
That's a real beauty and one hell of a score to boot in that condition with original packaging. Nice kitty too.
Fanfrickentastic! Nice score Dick!

Beautiful receiver. I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on one of these when it showed up on the local CL for $150.
Nice job! The kitty looks happy with her (or his) new box too!
Congratulations! That is a beautiful receiver!
